Picking up from where 5 Tips to Help Workers Avoid Winter Slip and Fall Accidents (Pt. 1) left off, here, we will continue to point out some essential tips to keep in mind in order to minimize the chances that you will be hurt in a winter slip and fall accident at work.

Tip 2 – Take it slower than usual.

Being in a rush to get to work or to get work done during the day can lead people to walk fast and/or to be careless about where they walk. In the winter, this can substantially increase the risk of winter slip and fall accidents, as walking hastily (indoors or outdoors) can lead to:

  • Not looking before taking a step
  • Stepping into puddles, mud or icy
  • Experiencing a winter slip and fall accident.

So, do yourself a giant favor this winter and try to be conscious of taking it a bit slower. It’s better to be a little bit late or to take a little longer doing something than to slip, fall and seriously hurt yourself.

Tip 3 – Be prepared for black ice.

Black ice is the thin layer of ice that can cover roads and outdoor walking surfaces. Because “black” ice is essentially transparent (appearing black on asphalted ground), it’s easy for people to overlook it, forget about it and proceed as they usually would.

For instance, when people are not expecting black ice and don’t look for it, they can end up making some missteps that cause them to lose their balance and succumb to winter slip and fall accidents.
